Proverbs

Reading through Proverbs on my way to work. A very practical book indeed. Verses that convicted me about the words that one speaks. A reminder for us to walk or, in this case, talk as children of God.

31:30 "Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised"

30:5-6 "Every word of God is pure, He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar."

29:5 "A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet"

29:11 "A fool vents all his feelings, but a wise man holds them back"

29:20 "Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him"

28:23 "He who rebukes a man will find more favor aftrwards than he who flatters with the tongue"

24:26 "An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips" (boy, what a way to give kisses... =) )

22:11 "He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious will have the king for his friend"

18: 2 "A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart"

17:27 "He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit"

16:1 " The preparedness of the heart belong to man, but the answers of the tongue is from the Lord."

13:3 "He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction"

Particularly convicted, for over the weekend, my normal bantering wounded a friend. While it's true that such teasing treatment are reserved only for ppl that I am comfortable with, but the fact that it caused hurt still stands. Certainly not one with gracious and merciful words, but by the grace of God, the Spirit will guide the words that I speak. May each word proceeds from love and carries with it the love, grace and peace of the Lord.
